The Keeper of the Mist

Keri has been struggling to run her family bakery since her mother passed away. Now the father she barely knew – the Lord of Nimmira – has died, and ancient magic has decreed that she will take his place as the new Lady. The position has never been so dangerous: the mists that hide Nimmira from its vicious, land-hungry neighbors have failed, and Keri’s people are visible to strangers for the first time since the mists were put in place generations ago.

At the same time, three half-brothers will their own eyes on the crown make life within the House just as dangerous as the world outside. But Keri has three people to guide her: her mysterious Timekeeper, clever Bookkeeper, and steadfast Doorkeeper. Together they must find a way to repair the boundary before her neighbors realize just how vulnerable Nimmira is.

5 Comments The Keeper of the Mist

  1. Anita

Hello my name is Anita and I have read your book keeper of the mist. I believe that this book should be a manga series or a fulll out movie.

  2. Rachel

Thank you, Anita! I would love to see that happen, but Random House probably won’t go for it. Someday, if I ever get the rights back, it would be neat to think about at least a graphic novel.

Hi Rachel, I read your book The Keeper of the Mist and I have been wondering if it is part of a series. It is my all-time favorite book and I have been yearning for more ever since the last page. Please think about adding a second installment if there isn´t one already.

Hi, Rachel, I have recently read your book The Keeper of the Mist. I have been wondering if there is or will be a second installment. The Keeper of the Mist is my all-time favorite book and ever since the last page I have been yearning for more of Keri´s story.

Thank you so much, Ellie! I am so happy you loved that story!

But, I’m sorry, I doubt I will be writing a sequel. (I really am sorry!) This was sold to Random House as a stand-alone, and they haven’t expressed interest in a sequel. It’s tough to market a sequel when I don’t have control of the first book. I’ve done it, and I will probably do it again, but that depends on already having written a sequel. I never wrote one for MIST and don’t really expect to.

I might very well write a novella set in this world for a collection at some point. My first collection, Beyond the Dreams We Know, had stories set in the worlds of The City in the Lake, the Griffin Mage, The Floating Islands, and The Mountain of Kept Memory. If I do another collection, I would aim to include novellas set in the world of Keeper of the Mist, House of Shadows, White Road of the Moon, and Winter of Ice and Iron. That would be all the rest of the worlds of my traditionally published novels.

Comments like yours make me think that I really should do that. Thank you for letting me know you would like another story in that world. I’ll give that some thought during the coming year.
