All right, so what to say first. Hmm.
A) Sure, Adamantine first. I think I said I had two chapters to go, not counting the short denouement. (Someday I will spell “denouement” right the first time, but this is not that day.). Insaid that last week too,. Well, I still have two (probably) chapters to go, not counting the d-e-n-o-u-E IS HERE-m-e-n-t, but naturally this is because the first of those previous “two chapters” got cut in half as various exciting things happened. Thus, I’m making progress. I suspect the last real chapter will also divide. I just feel that’s likely to happen. I expect I should write it this week, AND the denouement, unless things happen to derail that intention. So by NEXT Monday, I hope I will be saying, FINISHED, YAY!
Then revision, BUT since I already cut that one character, that part is finished and in fact I think that there won’t be a great heaping gob of primary revision, meaning the revision that occurs before anybody else sees the story. With luck, if the whole thing came together pretty decently, there won’t be all that much secondary revision either because early readers will just point to minor things, not giant things. Honestly, it does seem to me to be in pretty decent shape! I hope I’m right about that!
I have had (minor! I think! probably!) health things going on, which are (I think!) likely to resolve without undue excitement in July, so with reasonable luck nothing will get in the way and I sure hope I will FINALLY be starting the Hedesa sequel no later than August, hopefully aiming for a December release date, though it’s hard to guess because I think it will not be as fast and easy to write as, say Bereket. Which was unusually fast, as many Tuyo-world stories are, and most others are not.
Meanwhile! Speaking of cutting things, such as chapters, in half!
B) Definitely TWO Tuyo-world collections, like so:
- A pair of linked novellas, published in one book. I’m going to title the book “inKera,” which surely tells you which two novellas will be in it — Lisig and Vayu. The later is not finished. I think it will come out at something like 40,000 words (this is a guess). I think it’s about 2/3 of that now and it’s not finished, so it seems likely it’ll come out about that length. That will make the combined length of these two novellas about 90,000 words, eg, longer than a typical romance novel and quite adequate for a book.
- Everything else. Or enough of everything else to create another book about the same length. I have five stories completed at this point, ranging from 7000 to 22,000 words. All of these are Ugaro stories. I want an absolute minimum of three Lau stories, and more would be fine, depending on how long any of them are, of course. Here are some ideas, many of which you all suggested:
- The story about the young sorcerer who comes to Aras to ask for help, as in, “I don’t want to hurt them! You have to help me!” This one is started.
- An epistolary story featuring Rakiar, ideally a double story where one story occurs in a historical document and the other in letters about the document. This is a bright, vivid gleam in my eye, but just a gleam so far. I really don’t know what to do with it — I have a few ideas, but still, not sure. But the idea itself is just so appealing!
- A story from Lalani’s pov, right after she marries Suyet. A slice-of-life story where they visit his family and hers.
- A story from Kerren’s pov, which takes place after Tasmakat, while Aras is at the Peacock Desert. Takes place in Sigaranra; Kerren works things out with his family.
- A story where Tathimi visits the winter country, set right after Tasmakat, so Tathimi is a child. I think I would tell this story from Selili’s pov, Marag’s pov, or both.
- A story about another dedicat whose life was smashed to rubble by the Tokores sorcerer, who, with Markias’ example before him, puts his life back together in a different way.
Other suggestions are welcome. I don’t mind suggestions that are Ugaro-focused, but unless something REALLY grabs me (which could totally happen!), I will probably aim to write some Lau-centered stories next.
Therefore!
I hope for the following very approximate release dates. Remember things need to be fully polished and dropped at Patreon before they go live on Amazon, so that tends to push release dates on Amazon back a bit.
inKera — August or September (because I think it will be quicker to finish and revise and proofread and so forth).
Adamantine: Subtitle 1 — September or October (because I’m betting it will take longer to clean up and proofread and everything).
Adamantine: Subtitle 2 — October or November (meaning a month later than Subtitle 1).
Hedesa II, whatever its title turns out to be — December (this is a guess).
Tales from the World of Tuyo — I hope sometime this year, but it could be next year.
Sultry summer is in full swing

Suggestions about Lau stories:
The story of Karoles and the time of his progress from being the captain of the guard of the Samara household to being talon commander, his thoughts and feelings about Aras, his POV of what was happening with him during the whole Lorellan situation, his rise to being a scepter holder too and all the things that come with it. I’m curious about him, like was he always blustery and always enjoyed being rawr-angry, what’s his family like, etc
A follow-up to Suelen showcasing his time teaching anyone who wants to be a sun healer / dedicat, basically how he dealt with Lau women coming to him and all the politics behind it, how he set up his teaching establishment and I guess Sekaran’s sister would be involved in some way somewhere there too.
Esau’s adventures with Keruanani and their sons, when he left Ryo and Aras at the peacock desert to infiltrate one of the houses in Gaur to dig out all the traitors in connection to the sorcerer. It would be cool to read about things from his pov and Keraunani’s pov as well as maybe some chapters from the son’s pov (really sorry, I can’t remember his name for some reason right now, it starts with a P, I think?).
A story about a Lau boy growing up surrounded by the talons and how his life would be. Either he’s a talon wife’s child or an orphan they picked up or somesuch.
Gedesares’s story, when he finds out his father (and Sekaran) wants him to step down from being an heir to be a lord of , setting up there, his family life etc. It would be kinda cool to see some parts of Gedes and Kelleos from his POV.
Gedes and Kelleos and their childhood and growing into adulthood. Would love to hear about their experiences and joys and tribulations and the way they always protect each other.
PS. Apologies for any misspellings of names. Also I had forgotten the name of the county that Gedaseres was to be lord of and then put “darn it forgot the name of the county” in between those parentheses that look like less-than/greater-than signs and it got stripped out automatically. Guess the system doesn’t like anything that looks like code, heh.
I just want some twin stories !
I’m terrible at spelling, so no problem as long as I can tell whom you mean! Esau’s kid – Pirau, Pir for short.
I really want to do an Esau / Keraunani story about that adventure, a real novel. We’ll see!
Twin stories, argh, now I want to write THIS.
Some Lau stories that might be interesting to learn…
1.Gedes and Kelleos going to the pearl diving Sasa to learn the language.
2. A poor/low class woman who is helped by Rihasi’s actions so she can improve her life.
3. something about Geras’ youth or his family. He is such a good father figure in the books and I think he is so under-appreciated!
4. This will probably not be feasible as a story, but maybe someone who has recent both Lau and Ugaro blood and faces discrimination for it/doesn’t fit in either country and struggles with it.
5. More about the boy Bacet and his time in the land of the Two Suns.
6. The adventures of Nicali Dauyana when she pretended to be a boy.
I’ll add a few more story ideas to the list if any of these sound interesting.
1) Dara’s POV giving birth to the twins and all the emotions and character moments surrounding that.
2) Tikoen’s possible friendship with Iokeres and his continued recovery from being rescued in Bereket.
3) The Tarashana tale about how Seha Kasajasi was formed that Ijesele told.
Looking forward to all of this!
What riches! I love the story ideas for the second Tuyo world collection – they all sound fabulous to me, though I would be particularly interested in the Kerren and Tathimi ones. And of course Lalani and Suyet are always fun to be around.
From the comments ideas, a Suelen follow-up would be cool too. (Why have just Lau or Ugaro when you can have both? :D)
Looking forward to inKera and Adamantine also.
I’ve “started” the Kerren one, though it’s hard for me to take “started” seriously as a concept when I mean I’ve just written, like, two pages. Still, it’s sort of semi-started. More than just a single line of description to remind me what I’m thinking about.
So many good ideas!
The very young woman Rihasi rescued from sequestration might have interesting issues reintegrating into her family/class, and possibly get ideas if Rihasi’s history becomes particularly public.
I am so looking forward to these collections!!! The story ideas sound great. I don’t have any more burning ideas, but I’m so glad you’re doing the one burning idea I *DID* have.
I’d love to hear about Lady Pasaunan (??) – the scholarly lady who writes treatises under her husband’s name. We hear a bit about her offstage in Sekaran, but I know she’s mentioned before that as well.
I’m also very curious about Sekaran’s sister V. More scholarly fictional women for the win!
Agree with Kathryn about Lady P (and Sekaran’s sister as well)! I do remember wondering about Lady P when I read about her (in Suelen?)
