Just so you all know, the entire Black Dog series is on sale today and for the next several days.

I would usually run a sale at Halloween, but as I mentioned recently, I don’t think I’ll have the next collection ready for release by then, so there’s no reason to wait.
I’m promoting via the Freebooksy series promotion. I wasn’t impressed with that promotion previously, but I’m trying something new this time — dropping the prices of every book in the series, mostly by quite a bit, with both Black Dog and the first collection free. So we’ll see how it goes!
I am rereading Kate Elliott’s ‘Unconquerable Sun’ space opera. She is returning to her roots–the first series she wrote was about an ambitious privateer captain, who discovers a Flying Dutchman haunted ship. This one is more ambitious: Princess Sun is the heir to the matrilineal throne of the Chaonian Empire, and a retelling of Alexander. She has her Companions; scions of other influential houses. The family of her mother’s third consort is about to betray the Queen. And there is a terrible enemy to fight.
I need to read more of Elliott’s work. I haven’t read any of her space opera — unless you count the Jaran series, which I don’t. SF yes, space opera no.
Kate Elliott wrote a space opera where a rebel leader styled himself after Alexander. This time around it is very much “hold my beer and watch *this*!” She pulls it off with style and grace. And humor.
Fine, Pete, you’ve persuaded me — I’m getting a sample now.
Well, you got me – that was a really good sale, and I’m thoroughly enjoying Black Dog now. Thanks!
I’ve got to say, I’m usually ‘meh’ for urban/rural fantasy (I prefer secondary worlds), but this one’s what the genre should be. :)
Glad you got it, E.C. — I’ll be raising all the prices again today.
I don’t know if you’ve tried her, but reading Patricia Briggs’ werewolf series — the Mercy Thompson series — is what made me want to write a werewolf series of my own.
Will go look her up when I have time – currently I have prodigious amounts of produce to preserve for winter, so my TBR pile . . . well, piles. Thanks for the recommendation!
